about the trip to the falls - 1/17/11

This young man told us that during the rainy season the roar of Kaieteur is loud enough for them to hear. He told us how many tons of water, but my memory is no longer that good ::))

Oh, and this plant eats insects.

The guide.

This is where we landed.

The plane. I sat behind the pilot.

The 13 seater from Lethem to Georgetown was smooth. The plane ride to the falls was on a 9 seater. It was smooth for most of the trip, but on the way back there were a few bumps and my stomach did not like it one bit. But, it was worth it. The Amerindian guide for Kaieteur gave us some information. I'm not sure I can recall all of it. He told us about Kai the warrior. According to the guide, the rock formation is millions of years old and something about it lets them know that it use to be the seabed at one time. He also told us about the small golden frog that was full of a deadly venom. I saw one. He took us to three places to view Kaieteur. There are nine (9) Amerindian groups in the Guyana area.

Here's a little bit of the plane experience.

a little bit of the trees

The entire place is a hiker's paradise
